There are three different disciplines of gymnastics performed in the Olympics; artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics have always been a part of the Olympics, making it one of the oldest sports in the games.
In artistic gymnastics, men compete using six different apparatus: parallel bars, horizontal bars, rings, vault, pommel horse, and floor. Women compete using four apparatus: floor, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault.
Rhythmic gymnastics is exclusive to women athletes, and is a combination of dance & gymnastics. Athletes must perform a series of choreographed movements using hand apparatus such as rope, hoop, ball, ribbon, and clubs.
Trampoline gymnastics consists of athletes performing short routines that include a series of twists, spins, flips, and bounces. They are then judged based on the difficulty and execution of their routines.
