Olympic swimming in a staple sport of the Olympics, and was featured in the first modern Olympics Games at Athens 1896. It was only until 1908 that Olympic swimming was moved to an indoor pool with a length of 100m, twice the length of modern Olympic pools.
Swimmers compete across various lengths from 50m to 1500m in both teams & individual events. Tokyo 2020 will be the first Olympics to host mixed gender relays.
Team GB have won 71 medals in Olympic swimming, 16 of which are gold - the Olympic British Swimming team won seven medals at London 1908.
